On the "setup is making sure your system is ready for installation"
hang, open task manager and see if you have a process of xcopy.exe
running. If you do, kill it and see if setup continues.

Quite simply, setup cant verify the service account.
Either something is screwy with the account or your network setup.

I am upgrading from standard to enterprise edition of Exchange 5.5 after
