This is more of a design philosphy question than an issue with any
particular environment.

We relay all mail, in and out, via 4 boxes running Interscan Viruswall.
Exchange scanning is a little to hit or miss for egress protection.

the gateway. I've never been one to trust a single AV vendor and then take
the flack if an infected email
If your gateway is not overburdened, why bother making a change?
