You're correct. SBS can not be added to an existing domain. It must be the
one and only domain controller.

probably can't anyway since they are in use. Are they of large size and
maybe taking a little while to be sent? The badmail you can safely
delete.

directories is transient or the files are open. The only exception is
exchsrvr\kmsdata (if you use it), which you can only back up
successfully if you shut down the Key Management Server
exchange or is it say file and rpint too.???
