Thanks for getting back to me. Yes it appears that the IP was blacklisted
by a few RBLs. Luckily I was able to get the few removed pretty much right

Probably blacklisted? I'd check like mxtoolbox.com or dnsstuff.com and see if
you're listed somewhere. You'll have to jump through a bunch of hoops to get
de-listed before the big boys will accept mail from you again.

Is it another exchange server? 2007 or higher? If so, it should "just work".
If not, no. Exchange uses a custom extension to support untrusted TLS (they
submitted it to the IETF, but as far as I know, no one else supports it).

Is there a way to get Exchange 2010 SP1 to do Basic Auth over TLS where the
smarthost Exchange is connecting to has a self-signed certificate? I completely
trust the smarthost, but Exchange just won't make a connection for certificate
problems.

Now looking at the upgrade to Exchange 2010 and all my planning had been around
doing the upgrade with SP1.
As SP 2 is now out and has the OWA Cross-Site Silent Redirection I was leaning
towards using that instead. Any gasps from the crowd? We have UM here as well
but can't see that be
