Just wondering, if i can create a web farm in TMG that points to my 2 cas
servers, why would i also need to setup a cas array?

Well you can create web farms in TMG, this is not load balancing but CAS

Strictly speaking no; but a CAS array is pretty mandatory if you want to have
high availability on your databases. Otherwise, each time you want to reboot a
CAS, or your CAS fails, you'll need to change the RpcClientAccessArray
parameter on each EDB before your users can work.
The bottom line
Even if you don't plan on load balancing the CAS Array name used for RPC Client
Access, you should still consider using one, as for your scenario where you
plan to move users to the other node for server maintenance, you'll be able to
change the DNS record in advance to point at the other CAS
I would use AddReplicaToPFRecursive instead.
