I've searched for this but haven't found an answer. And I apologize at the
start that this will probably go on...

We wanted to create more secure connectors on our exchange 2007 servers as we
only had a default one (accepting from any IP) and also a External Relay
Connector (for use of our Application servers/sister org.

We share our GAL with a sister organisation (different Exchange org) and today
when we set up some new connectors with specific authentication settings
(externally secured) and were going to get the sister org to relay their mail
to exchange 07 instead of our soon to be replaced Exchange 2003 servers (that
had the resolve anonymous email setting configured).

We created the new connector, configured it to allow the specific IPs of the
Exchange servers in the sister org to connect (Authentication was set as
Externally secured, the permission group was Exchange Server).

This just seemed to stop all the mail from being routed to us from the sister
organisation (which was successfully travelling down to the Exchange 2003
server which in turn relays to Exchange 2007 where our mailboxes are hosted).

So we start looking at why they cant get mail delivered and are connecting to
various servers to make telnet sessions to various locations seeing which
connector accepts the connection. We notice that if we connect from one of our
application servers and send a telnet smtp message it will be delivered but in
the headers of the mail the recipients are set as 'to: undisclosed recipients'
and the To field is blank in outlook. We don't know why this is happening, we
certainly don't want mails arriving with a blank To: field.

Another strange thing (that may be related to the above) is that when we telnet
to our exchange 2007 server we can run through the SMTP commands and get a
Recipient OK, but if we telnet to Exchange 2003 we don't get a 250 Recipient OK
message (we are expecting to see one (we think!?)).

This is probably not very helpful and i am becoming very cross-eyed and need to
go home for food, i just thought that i would throw out there the undisclosed
recipients thing as we are just not sure why it is happening.

We have 3 exchange 2003 servers, 3 Ex 2007 servers (2 hub transport and 1
mailbox), all on the same lan.

Any ideas would be very gratefully received, not necessarily the answer just
pointed in the right direct would be useful.

Ta

Colin
