When installing SP4 for Exchange 5.5 we receive an error that the ESE.DLL is
in use or missing. When checked the file is there and doesn't appear to be
in use unless exchange locks this by default. 2 questions, what is this
file used-associated with (ESEUTIL?). How can I get around this
You need to stop as many services as humanly possible before instilling SP4.
AV, Exch, Any management tools such as Insight Mangler, IIS, etc.

Lets see if I can remember, but I believe that there is a readme.txt or something of that sort with instructions on how to install SP4 for Exch 5.5. If memory serves me correctly, Exchange has to be shut down to install. IE all Exchange services must be stopped, plus any

one fix to rename the file then hit the retry button?
I've
come across this when first installing sp2,3+4 and renaming the file has always
worked in the past.
