50k legit emails or just total? If not legit, look into greylisting.
That can seriously reduce the total ammount of mail to hit your MTA
and require a DNSBL lookup

I added bl.spamcop.net and catching a few more about 6k / day which
isn't bad but Spamhaus was catching 15k / day.

What happens is, if you push to many email lookup requests to Spamhaus
they will throttle you back. We had the same issue, so I investigated
their Datafeed service.
I did get it setup, but didnt get it tested in time before the trial
expired.

Use of the SBL is free for individuals operating small mail servers as long as
your email traffic is low. Commercial users, corporate networks and ISPs need
to purchase a yearly subscription to use the service: see
Looks like you need their Datafeed service. We had the same issue with
Spamhaus.
