funny. I had to do the same thing with our vpn. I thought I
was bastardizing name resolution but it worked. I am glad to hear
someone else has the same problem, misery loves company I
guess.

I pointed my W98 machine to our WINS server and added an LMHOSTS file, pointing to both our PDC and Exchange server.

I want to run outlook via vpn off 98 I can easially do
this easilly with win 2k pro, but for some reason then
98 will not see the exchange server It will see
everything else. Telnet, FTP, web and pcanywhere. Any
