[exim] Upgrading or improving spam function

I would like to understand and possibly upgrade the spam function from our mail server (exim 4.34 r-1 ) I am not sure how this works. but could do with someone to point me in the right direction. this has become an issue as spurious spam email is getting through our mail server onto the end users
