A few days ago I setup ClamAV on Exim mostly following instructions found
online.
My question is if there is a way to have exim remove the attachment or
attempt to have exim clean the attachment instead of simply rejecting the
message? I've done some searching but haven't had any luck.

They do however allow it through port 587, with smtp-auth. This breaks my
smart host and I cannot find how to setup the smart host to send smtp-auth.
You may want to just append your hostname to local_domains in your config.
