Have you tried resetting variables inside the script ?
$ perl -e 'print "1- @ENV{'LANG'}\n" ; @ENV{'LANG'}="C" ; print "2-
@ENV{'LANG'}\n" '
1- [EMAIL PROTECTED]
2- C
