Exim.conf is standard except for the route to SMTP relay, and a rewrite rule:

Try running exim -d

Thanks Patrick.. I have moved the SMTP router to after the
system_aliases one. It reads as follows:
send_to_gateway:
driver = manualroute
domains = !+local_domains
transport = remote_smtp
route_list = * (address of internal SMTP gateway)
Hopefully that will fix it up for me...

I just updated openldap on one exim server and I tried to use ldapi
(ldap over socket) instead of ldap on localhost. I used ldap over
tcp/ip on localhost for a longer time now and the update is a good
