from tek desktop directory but at the next startx they are once again
present.

I have the exact same computer and get similar behavior. I've begun to
suspect the files themselves are at fault, since I can in general play
midi files, mp3's and many .wavs with no problem. But I haven't copied one
of the "noise" files yet to windows to test it, so I could be wrong.

I have upgraded MandrakeDesk (just in case there was a fix in there),
but alas, no fix. To refresh, I launch KDE, and everything appears to
start fine. But upon trying to execute a button or a menu item, nothing
