Are you using XFree 4.0 perchance? You have to go to /usr/lib/X11/fonts.
In one of the directories, you'll find an *.rpmnew file. Overwrite the
current file with the rpmnew file, and restart xfs and X.

A promising candidate for a real GUI PPP dialer is the rp3 package in
the latest Redhat. It's a front end to wvdial and ifup, and it's as easy
as you can get: you supply it with the phone number of your ISP, your
username and password, and it takes care of the rest. It even figures
out how to navi
Often the bug fixes end up in Cooker, not on the updates page. You're fairly
safe with Cooker rpms if the version number only differs by the rpm build
number (i.e. 2.2-14 vs. 2.2-15). I agree that Mandrake needs to put more
effort into maintaining the updates page. The bug fixes are usually in

I think that it's far from obvious that reducing the MTU really does
improve performance. I have a 56K modem over a PPP connection (avg
connection speed ~ 45K), and I didn't notice any performance change with
an MTU of 576. I kept the change to 576 because I ran across a few buggy

What soundcard? Do other sounds work? (I missed the first post, so my
apologies if you already gave us this info).
If you happen to have a SoundBlaster 64/Ensoniq AudioPCI there are
several bugs in the kernel sound driver. First, the CD channel needs to
be set to be a recording source in o
Despite being a glibc distribution, I believe that Mandrake packages the
libc5 version of Netscape because it's more stable.

This problem aporadically occurs with my Mandrake 6.1 setup as well. It
hasn't happened in several months, and I haven't changed anything
related to PPP between then and now. I never figured out what caused the
problem. I'm wondering if it's a problem with some ISPs' setup that

I don't understand what the confusion is about "no G2 plugin". Clicking
on a realplayer video file in your web browser and having realplay
s back. Also keep in
mind that some web sites seem only to work with the plugin.

One of the few things I had no problems at all with :)
Works great!!
Lucky for you. Every time I try to adjust Real Player G2's volume control,
it crashes my sound driver. I have to reboot the machine to get sound back.
Plus, there's no Netscape plugin yet.

The profiles feature is useless on any OS with user accounts. That's one
of the reasons why I don't use Netscape on NT.

stly for them, since Quicktime support for
Linux is already done (Xanim and Xmovie). All those authors need are the
codecs. Or, maybe one of those authors wouldn't mind donating or selling
their code to Apple so that Apple doesn't have to start from scratch.

Weird, about the cut and paste to/from Netscape. Mandrake 6.0 was the first
distro I've actually used where that worked. SuSE 6.0 certainly didn't. Are
there special compiler options that need to be enabled?

If you update the rpm that contains libnewt.so.0.50, then it might work.

Hi,
After wrestling with by computer's BIOS, I finally got my Imation
Superdisk (LS-120) working on Mandrake Linux 6.1. The only problem is,
there seems to be no way to low-level format a standard floppy disk on
it. fdformat only works on drives connected to floppy controllers. I was
amazed that
