Okay,got it to sort of work. I took the Western Digital of the promise ata
100 controller and conected it to the motherboard instead.Installed fine, but
have to boot with rescue disk, error at boot is missing o/s. I looked for
lilo.conf but it is not there, I ran rpm -q lilo and it says it is
Okay the problem is not resolved yet. I still get the cant find root at
boot-up,during install it says it is hde6 which is what it allways was with
7.2, I did get it to go further by passing the following at the promt, linux
root=/dev/hda5 ? ? ? ? ? ? HOWEVER, IT GOES TO BOOT AND CANT FIND
L could sure use some help here.I downloaded and installed 8.0 final and when
it rebooted I received the following message:
VFS:cannot open root device 2106 or 21:06
Please append a correct root= boot option
kernel panic : VFS : unable to mount root fs on 21:06
I tried to boot with rescue
Try lspci or lspcidarake.Let me know if you get it working, would like to
get mine working and I too have the same chip on a Toshiba Satellite 1715.
I want to install the new 2.4 kernel on my Mandrake 7.2 laptop,running grub.
Do I just use the rpm for the kernel and the 2.4cs rpm? What changes do I
make and to what files so I can boot both kernels? I think I tried this once
before and could not boot.Thanks for all the help !

Can someone tell me wich pcmcia cards do not use the tulip driver? I have
tried a Netgear and a Soho, both times I get cant load tulip module,failed.

then installed from text console outside of x.I then did a "rpm --rebuilddb"
followed by "update-menus -v" Once I went to log in I found a whole bunch of

Getting Nt and Linux to work in a dual boot system is easy.I will post the
procedure to use the NT loader if any would need to know how to do it

2.)Install Linux,putting Lilo in the / Partition,remember the hard drive
mount point,on my machine it is hda8.
3.)When Linux is installed you will not be able to get back to it yet.Use
the cd and choose rescue to get to a prompt.Mount your floppy drive.Then
type this :dd
