Hello all,

I've recently decided to upgrade my laptop (IBM ThinkPad 390E, for
that matter) from RH6.0 to Mandrake9.0. The reason: Laziness
i.e. urpmi instead of figuring out rpm dependencies by hand and/or
the "gtar; configure; gmake" mantra

Anyway, so far I have some problems w/ it, some serious, some not

1) Not serious: Frame buffer fscked at boot up

If I decide to boot up using linux-nofb (I'm a bitter old man, I hate
change and flashy stuff), after starting S12syslog in run level 3 (but
God knows what causes it) the screen changes in some weird text mode. That
per-se is not such a huge problem. However, there is a problem w/ the
framebuffer that makes it keep a white rectangle in top left corner of
screen. Really ugly. Any hit wrt the where/whats w/ the text mode fubars?

2) (VERY) Serious: Devfs problems ?

I have a 256MB CF card (digital camera mem) and a CF->PCMCIA adaptor. When I pop it in
the free PCMCIA slot:
       - First, automount doesn't do its job and mount /dev/hde<whatever>.
       - Much more serious: When manually trying to mount the card via
e.g. via:

root:~# mount /dev/hde1 /compactflash

(or /dev/hde for that matter)

the system goes beserk: The mount hangs, system dogged slow, doesn't
shutdown except dropped from 2m high (i.e. power off).

The relevant syslog excerpt:

[... wash, rinse, repeat...]

Needless to say, the operation (including the autmount ;)) works like
a charm in other distros e.g. the Knoppix Linux-on-a-CD distro.

Any ideas ?

TIA,

Florian
