You need to add an entries for ttyp0 ... for the psudo ports that you want
to allow root to telnet in on. Root will be allowed only on those ports

You do have the folder on the windows machine setup as shared right?
If you type "smbclient -L " without the quotes
does it show up in the list?

You can edit the PATH in one of 2 places, 1 - is /etc/profile - this is
the default for all users if you want to change it for an indiviual look
at /home/$USER/.bash_profile.
