I'm using XFree4/KDE2 under Mandrake 7.2 with an ATI Mach64
video card and a Hitachi CM751 monitor.

When I enable DPMS, the monitor blanks for a few seconds
after the timeout period set with xset, but then an "INVALID
SCAN FREQ." message appears from the monitor and the screen
shows a random, garbled video signal. Pressing any key
brings the desktop back.

In the BIOS (ABIT BH6 rev. 1.1) I have ACPI disabled and APM
enabled. I've tried Video Off Methods: "DPMS", "Blank
Screen", "V&H Sync + Blank Screen" respectively; nothing
fixes the problem. I've also tried disabling APM and
BIOS-level power management functions respectively. At
first I thought this worked, but eventually the monitor
entered the same errant state.

Additionally, I tried installing the apmd package from
Mandrake 7.2 install ISO and turning back on APM in the
BIOS. Still getting the "INVALID SCAN FREQ" message
accompanied by a garbled video signal in standby.

Any suggestions on how to get the screen to stay blank
during standby?

I'd be interested also in any pointers to general references
on power management under Mandrake that might exist.

Thanks.
