tc/X11/X. Does this file exist? Is it a
link to a valid X server, like /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_SVGA or
something?

You need to make a filesystem on the partition:
# mke2fs /dev/hda4
or whatever your new ext2 partit
your
default bootup is called "linux", it'd look like:
boot: linux 4
to boot to runlevel 4, which would start just about everything
except for X. Other useful run-levels are 1 and S (for
single-user mode).

Also, you
might try running fdisk even if you don't. I've seen partition
magic get confused before when partition information is still on
the drive.

md5sum file. Using an image with the message digest
of 6f01a2df94f8f39d6c73245e9bc87ada, I installed Mandrake, and
have been actively using the CD for a week or two with no sign of
trouble. I think the image is fine.

Try increasing the debug level setting on the printer server and
see if you get any useful error messages in the logfile.

You might try playing with hdparms to set some of the hd
parameters to more conservative values.

UB reads the filesystems
on your machine during bootup, rather than having to just store
an offset onto the drive where it expects the kernel to be. The
advantage, is that if you compile a new kernel or move it or
something, you don't have to remember to update your boot manager
to be able to b
reen.
4 meg should really be enough for 1280x1024 x 16bpp. I ran this
configuration on a 4 meg card for a few years before upgrading.
