Strangely enough, Pj, depending on the amount of ram and CPU speed. It may
run better. The main problem with Windows based apps is usually resources.
So, you could have a Windows app that runs more reliably under Linux via
WINE etc, than under Windows.

I haven't been able to verify this, but I've heard that some of the newer
Celerons will not work as dual processors.
Although, I'd usually recommend scsi, for normal use, IDE is fine.
Scsi really shines with multi-task file -I/O...

Sorry to hear about this... I don't know if this applies to you but when it
happened to me, I found out that I needed to rebuild/compile my modules
everytime I upgraded the kernel. [This was part of a kernel compile -
make_modules]
