Interesting i was getting the same messages, but my computer hung (i
didn't try cntrl-c, that might have help). I recompiled my kernel and
turned off the winbond stuff.
I also was NOT getting this behavior on earlier mdk versions, only 8.0.

All,
I just upgraded my 7.2 system to the latest ximian gnome, so i can mess
around with evolution, etc.
anyway, everything installed right, but my gdm doesn't think Gnome is
installed anymore! I looked at it a little, and in
/etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/ all the windows manager scripts in there are
mine went from about 300kBps to about 320kBps, but that easily could
just be traffic variance on the server...

Hi all,
I was thinking about upgrading to the latest development packeges (for a
bunch of reasons) using mandrake update My current system is 7.2 +
all latest normal updates.
Anyone done this recently? Any reasons to definately wait? (known
problems, compatibility issues, etc)
Thx!
Ken
just notince something else about menudrake.
If i run it as root from a shell, it doesn't work.
If i run it from DrakeConf (as a user), and enter the root password,
then run menudrake, it works?!?!?!
Ken
Ok, now i'm really confused. menudrake is now working fine for me.
I did upgrade to the latest "normal" updates and upgraded xalf to
version xalf-0.4-4.1mdk to fix a different problem. I'm CERTAIN i'm not
using menudrake any differently, so something must have fixed it.
Ken
check out the thread "su in X gives xalf library error", going on
today should include a couple things to try.
K
Actually, mine started working after i upgrade xalf (0.4-4.1) AND i
loged out and logged back in. Maybe that version fixes the problem. I
think that was the only other thing that changed
?? got me
Thanks!

I had similar problems when i installed mdk7.2 with cups on my
network i had 2 issues:
1) by default only 127.0.0.1 has permission to print on the server. In
/etc/cups/cupsd.conf (on the server), find the line that looks like:
Allow From 127.0.0.1
and add something like:
Allow From 192.168
I upgraded to all the latest mandrake updates to my 7.2 system last
night, and now a script i have that does something like:
su -c "/usr/bin/netscape -mail" user
that i use to kick off netscape to get my mail as another user now gives
me the error:
su: error in loading shared libraries: libxa
Just to answer a couple of the messages i received.
1) i use gnome, not kde. Shouldn't matter, but maybe there's some
weirdness. I haven't tried to see if the menu's in kde change (i didn't
install it so i can't run it), but i have tried icewm and it hasn't
changed either.
2) i did make
Hi all!
I just put a CLEAN mandrake 7.2 install on my computer (don't ask...
hard drive issues :). Anyway, i'm having trouble with menudrake.
Basically, it never changes my menus (in either gnome or icewm).
However, menudrake remembers my changes and displays them when i run it
again.
