While it is true that Cyrix named their processor the 6x86, it is most definately a 586 generation chip. AFAIK, Intel chips up to the Pentium3 are i586, while the AMD Athlon is 686 as is the Pentium4. The safest way to determine processor family is to go by what the kerenl reports it as on the lo
