Hi all,

I have tried twice to install 8.1 on my Compaq Armada 1750 laptop (PII-366,
192MB RAM, 6.4GB HDD, 24xCD, etc.)

Both times, when I reboot after the install, the boot procedure gets right
past the point where it loads the kernel and then starts displaying series of
numbers all across the screen. It won't stop, and the only thing is to turn
off the machine. This happens also if I try to boot from the rescue floppy.

Here's what it looks like:

[<c0#####>][<c0#####>][<c0#####>][<c0#####>][<c0#####>][<c0#####>]

Replace the # with any digit ... flashing by so rapidly I cannot read them!
The entire screen fills up with this stuff.

I've installed every Mandrake since 7.1 on this machine without major
difficulties. Since this is my main machine, I had to go back to 8.0 for the
time being, but would like to try again if anyone knows what's going on and
how to fix it.

Best regards,

Jeff Nelson
