Occasionally when I boot up to the console (runlevel 3), I see the
following strange message on the screen:
sher07 login: Winbond Super-IO detection now testing ports 3F0, 370,
250, 4E, 2E, SMSC Super -IO detection now testing Ports 2F0, 370.
I then have to type CntRL-C to return
Benjamin: That must be the serial drivers coming to life.. nothing to
worry about, and you dont have to do a CTRL-C; just keep typing; those are
just messages being blurted out; I get them too.. -t

Interesting i was getting the same messages, but my computer hung (i
didn't try cntrl-c, that might have help). I recompiled my kernel and
turned off the winbond stuff.
I also was NOT getting this behavior on earlier mdk versions, only 8.0.
