I'm not familar with MS proxy (but you could guess that huh), with the
imformation you've given all i can say is make sure all you env settings
are setup..


export HTTP_PROXY=http://127.0.0.1:8080 , for example with wwwoffle on
local port 8080. Same syntax for ftp FTP_PROXY=
I don't remeber the setting for socks off hand.

You could always redirect some ports i imagine. If you can you need to
ditch the over priced firewall/proxy software .
