I've installed every OO.o release on every Mandrake distro since 8.1, and
have never been able to integrate it into the KDE menus via Menudrake. But,
that said, it is in my menus (and I also have icons for all modules on my
desktop).

Personally, I prefer desktop icons, but the basic procedure is the same....
These steps assume use of the GUI. Same results may be obtained from the
CLI using the cp command.

1 Open Konqueror (as su if you intend a system-wide menu change, user if it
is only your own personal menus... I'll assume it is a system-wide setup
for the purposes of these instructions).

2 Navigate to /<your_base_OOo_install>/share/kde/net

3 In the sidebar, open the tree under /usr/share/applnk-mdk/office. There
should be sub-directories for Spreadsheets, Word-processors and so on.
from the main window, drag the relevant .desktop file to the correct
subdirectory in the sidebar (for example, writer.desktop goes in the Word
Processor directory), and select "Copy Here". Repeat as necessary. This
should give you the menu entries you desire (it's always worked for me,
although I don't use the menu for starting OO.o at all.

4 If you want Desktop icons, drag the .desktop files directly onto your
desktop and select "Link Here".

FWIW, I've always found Menudrake slow and clunky. I much prefer to do
modifications manually. BTW, OO.o RC5 has much better KDE integration, and
will install the mimetypes automatically. It is supposed to install the
menu entries as well, but there are sometimes problems with permissions and
the copying fails. The steps I've outlined are essentially what OO.o is
supposed to do for you....
