Hi,
to run basic (dos) programs in Linux you need to install the dos emulator.
He's comes also with a basic interpreter (don't remember the distrib).
If your friends basic program is compiled then there is no pb to run it in the
emulator.
I tryed it e few mounths ago without any pb.

Besides the other BASIC interpreters that someone else mentioned, you
might also try
search for yabasic on google or freshmeat.net or tell your friend to
learn C :)
