Well, I chose to do an update of my Mandrake 8.1 install which has
decidedly been a bad decision....

Apparently (I haven't fixed it yet) there were many softlinks which weren't
updated when the kernel was updated.  This wasn't a BIG problem until I
rebooted.  Now, /usr won't mount because it's EXT3 and that's a module.  I
can't run depmod because it requires access to /usr/src/linux.

Bit of a quandry.  I'm going to attempt to re-RPM the source and include
from the kernel with the empty /usr dir and hopefully depmod will run
then....  If not, it's a reinstall I'm seeing in my future.
