I am running Mandrake 8.0 + (LM 8.0 with glibc2.2.3, XFree864.1.0, kde2.2
beta and deps). I have been running into a major irritation when running
some gtk-based apps. One such app is scigraphica, a scientific plotting app
from sourceforge (sorry, I don't have a link as yet...search sourceforge and
it will pop up), and the other is gtkgraph, which I believe comes with LM 8.0.

The problem: When running either app, periodically and unpredictably, they
seem to make the kde window manager reset or restart. Nothing dies, but the
window borders and desktop background drops off momentarily and then comes
back on. The whole thing takes about 4 or 5 seconds before everything is up
and running properly again. It happens repeatedly (with gtk-graph I just had
this happen 3 times in the last 15 minutes of using it.

I cannot seem to find any error messages to accompany this behavior - I have
looked in my .xsession-errors and in /var/log/messages.

While this crash-reset cycle is going on I still have mouse and keyboard
input but I lose all the window borders and, momentarily, the kpanel.
