Anybody have any > stories? > > -Stephen- it's very fast. mostly it is the same as on X86 but there are a few differences. the weirdest thing is getting around with the one button mouse. there are many things in both KDE and gnome that can not be done with one button, you can of course use the modifier keys but they are sometimes inconsistent. there are not as many people hacking for PPC so ports are always a little behind. Most of the larger projects have PPC code included (linux kernel, apache, etc.) so it's not a big problem but you do feel like a second class citizen at times. There is no LILO. You either get into and tweak something called Open Firmware or you let the Mac OS boot part way until an extension called bootX loads that kicks Mac OS out of RAM then loads the linux kernel. Mac hardware is more tightly integrated so there are no BIOS settings to change and there is no p-n-p BS. The best part was seeing how much more the hardware could do just with some different code running. I almost laughed myself silly when I saw how fast netscape was under linux. I do suspect however that, save for slower hardware, LinuxPPC's days are numbered once OSX ships. Gavin
