Out of the box it is possible to resart the X server without dropping your dial up connection. This is true for all the versions of mandrake I have used to date including my current 8.2 install That is untill I installed KDE3. Now when ever I need to restart the X server which is not uncommon with KDE3 I drop the connection dispite my unchecking the disconnect on X server restart option. Anyone seen this before ? and how can I change this behaviour?
