hi list, have successfully rpm -U updated from XFree86-3.3.6 to 4.2.0, but how can I activate the running server from 3.3.6 to the new 4.2.0-release ? as you can see, the active Xserver is : XFree86 3.3.6 X-TT 1.3, patchlevel 21mdk thanks for your helps and ideas, hints and tips bye hans Wan

Here's what I would do 1. cp /etc/X-11/XF86Config to /etc/X11/XF86Config.bkp (always good to backup) 2 ctrl-alt-f1 to a console. 3.telinit 3 switches you out of X and into runlevel 3 4. Run drakxconf from the command line 5. Choose Change Monitor (or it may be change monitor resolution
