Hi guys,

I was just looking though a 9.2 contribs mirror and noticed powerDNS...
(more specifically I noticed a mysql powerDNS package.)

Reading though here: http://downloads.powerdns.com/documentation/html/
I seems that powerDNS can use everything from Named zone files to databses...

I like the idea of it running from a mysql DB, because I could then knock up a protected php app to easily add new domains/sub domains etc...

But before I start playing with that, I figured it might be wise to ask the pros here if they have any thoughts on it...
would mysql lookups be slower then traditional Bind or DjbDNS??? is there any downside to using a DB for the backend of a DNS server? normally I have a master xSQL server on the network, but for faster lookups I spose I'd put one localhost on the DNS box.

My experiance in total is with Bind, which is sad I know, but I got familiar with zone files early on, and found DJBDNS hard to think in terms of its config. (Also, I'd prefer to stay totally GPL where I can.)

Anyway, I'm just begging for opinions here... has anyone used powerDNS (I assume someone on cooker/expert is becuase it wouldn't be in contrib otherwise.)
