I don’t think it matter in elementary school or middle what operating system they are using unless they are try to set up servers or databases have a problem with linux and Microsoft and if you want to get into monopolies you have to mention Sony, ford, AOL, Ted Turner, and even governments trying to teach their practice of politics and so on. After all that has been happening lately the last thing I am worried about is what operating system is being taught or preferred. I live in Austin, Texas (home of Dell) do you actually think my daughter’s school paid for those computers? Or did Dell option out for the tax break? If there is a problem with the way something or something is being performed then action should be taken, not complaining. I have been using Linux on a steady basis lately on my laptop and I can get everything to work right and there is no real support for it. Even Redhat have poor support. But so do Microsoft. I can’t see my daughter needing to set up a mail server or sort. I think Microsoft is a good starter, easy to install over linux (I’m still trying to get mine fully functional and Mandrake is the easiest linux. I love it). My aunt (a physician asst.) and my mother (a RN) would think I was crazy if I came over there house and said hey drop windows and install this cool Linux!!! It’s free minus the box CD’s and the small charge that the companies say they don’t charge (as if 6 CD’s, a book and a box cost $49 to $149)!!! Your support will be mainly a mailing list!!! I know you just surf the net and create documents but it more stable!!! My aunt and my mothers response "What’s wrong with my computer now for what I do?" Me " I don’t but, My friends say Microsoft is (you fill it in) and Linux is King."
Believe it or not but by getting rid of the prompt early windows and Unix a lot of people started buying home computer more then ever because of windows 95 more websites getting more hits. Therefore companies are like wow we need to get more networking equipment and servers…more money into the economy. Companies hiring developers to make websites. Hardware and software for the site to sit on. (More money). People to support the websites…Not to mention the AOL millionaires who made money from subscribers. All because computers where easier to use. Jeez I remember when everyone hated Big Blue and was like go Microsoft Now everyone is go linux. And to top it all off while people are arguing over Os’s my wifes HMO wont pay our medical bills even though we pay them almost $300 a month!!!
- Why is this kid coming out of college, just learned how to reboot, getting a job and I have 4 years real life experience as an Oracle DBA?
- Why is that I can never find what I really want on Microsoft’s website.
- I can never find Microsoft’s beta versions or trial editions
- Could they please add more free software to their Os since I am paying for it? Hold on then everyone would consider that monopolizing like the web browser business.
- If linux is so free why is always such a cost like the Mandrake server edition $1,600?

- Why are companies trying to charge for linux training and linux is free, and a linux book is about 39.00 avg.?
