I just saw this article on HuffPost, and as a dutiful Buddhist I can only write a short note about it because I am busy packing and quitting my job and closing this chapter of my life before I run off to Asia to follow in his footsteps.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/11/buddha-boy-reemerges-from_n_143135.html or http://tinyurl.com/6cx3hd As the article says, "It was an amazing experience to hear and see him. I have no doubt now he is the reincarnation of Buddha," said Sangeeta Lama, a woman who met Bamjan for the first time. Yeah, that's the ticket. Someone says that he's the Buddha reincarnate, and the first time you meet him you just "know" that it's true. The thing is, that's how *Nabby* thinks. When some con artist like Benjamin Creme tells him that some- body he's probably picked at random from a crowd is "Maitreya," Nabby's going to wet himself trying to follow and worship "Maitreya," because he'll "know" that it's really Him. All that he needs is was to be told *which* Him he should worship. Me, I'm not really packing. This kid may be a neat kid, or he may be Just Another Spiritual Con Artist. Or he might be the Buddha reincarnate. I don't care. I'm not going to bust my butt to see him or pay any attention to him, just because others do, or because someone tells me to. That must be the difference between Buddhists and those who follow the far superior tradition that Nabby speaks about so often...
