I remember reading that a group of psychologists built one of those visual paradox box pictures that changes direction as you look at it, but they built it out of flourescent lights. The subjects spent a few minutes looking at it in a dark room until the switching started to take place, then the light was switched off and they found the glowing after-image on the retina still switched directions at the same speed it did when they were looking at the actual picture. Far out!
