Things have changed in the USA since then. But it was a beautiful show of how altruistic the americans can be at their best, if it was not just a plot to keep Berlin as a strategic part of the USA "zone". Same can be said of the Marshall-plan though I see more of a "higher" thinking behind that endeavor.
