As you mentioned, this type of marriage arrangement can get complicated. This probably is one of the reasons why polygamy was outlawed. But the fundamentalist Mormons are still at it. Maybe it works for them since polygamy is in context with their religious belief. --- In FairfieldLife@yah

It appears that most state governments are not enforcing the polygamy laws, unless there are other laws being violated such as rape and other crimes. Polygamists on the other hand are staying quite and maintaining a low profile since they do not have the political clout to overturn the current

In Canada they've been struggling with this a couple of decades, long before gay marriage was legalized. The government has not wanted to prosecute polygamists because they have legal opinions that say the law would not survive a constitutional challenge on the basis of freedom of religion.
