I'm in Kanchipuram for an 11 day Maha Rudra yagya (what else!). So it is genuinely a great time to be here.
Here's an interesting tidbit. My chief priest here spent many years working for the Shankaracharyas...first the really old one who passed away a number of years ago (Chandrashekarendra) and then the current one (Jayendra). So he took me to see Jayendra Saraswati, the current Shankaracharya and his successor and I got to spend about a half hour with him, talking intermittently as he did his usual work. At one point he was lookign at me and asked me if I practiced meditation and I said yes. He asked how many times a day and I said always one and sometimes two. He asked how many years, and I said almost 40 years. He looked at me and shook his head in sort of mild amazement. Then he said "Mahesh Yogi?" and I said yes. He smiled a big smile. Then he asked me if I went to the funeral and I said no. Then there was this look on his face that was like "Mahesh Yogi can get these westerners to do 40 years of meditation and how hard that is to accomplish here in India." It was a nice affirmation of Maharishi's work and that our own individual efforts are genuine. Just thought I'd pass that along, Best regards, and thanks again for the birthday wishes.
