this week I couldn't install Fedora on my T400
because Intel graphic chip was too new and hung anaconda (and text mode
didn't offer LVM crypt configuration). So maybe you should look into
installing Fedora 10 instead of 9.

What do you recommend as a replacement?
I use QuodLibet. It has very nice search system, nice plugins (like
populating your Play Queue with recommendations from last.fm) and comes
with excellent tag editor named Ex Falso.
