Firefox - lost back pointer

I seem to have lost the pointer one can click to go back to the previous web-page. It doesn't matter that much since I can attain the same end by Alt-Left Arrow . It is quite possible I inadvertently made some change in my Firefox settings, but I see nothing relevant in Edit=>Preferences. Any sug
