I've tried 'yum clean all', but that doesn't seem to help. What's going
on here?

I recall reading somewhere in the release notes (but I can't find it
now)...
upgrade to F9 will not upgrade thunderbird
rpm -e thunderbird
yum install thunderbird
fixes that
