Michelle,                                                                                                                     We are going to put Inky on metronidazole long term..about 30mg daily so I hope that will help with that..I talked to my vet today about what you are doing for Lucy and she has had other kitties on similiar protocols.   As for the salt in the diet, I read in one of my natural health books that some is good to stimulate thirst so they will drink more...My vet didn't really seem to think that would hurt as it is in the chicken broth that I give him, too..I also give him some salt sub at times for the K CL since he doesn't really like tumil K very well..His K levels weren't low though..
Anyway, I bought him a new toy and he really loves it...I guess it is amazing that he will still play...It has a mouse that spins around sorta like those with the ball that spins...I didn't really know if he would even look at it..but he talks to it and messes with it for a little while..some exercise is good for him and I am sure he knows his limits..
i did the wrong thing adding peas as he didn't digest them so that won't happen again...I will keep him on broth, chicken/turkey and mashed potatoes..He ate crackers today...Keep fingers crossed that his bowels will heal so he can keep eating to keep his kidneys flushed...It all goes together...I guess..

Cindy,
I have had Inky and my other older kitties on Hills K/D for several yrs...I only feed Hills and have for years...My dogs are on K/D right now as a preventive just like my older kitties..My dogs are also 11 1/2 yrs.  I started feeding Hills yrs ago since my cats use to get FUS all the time...since we changed to strictly Hills no more FUS...haven't dealt with it in yrs..I know it might not be the best, but it is alot better than most store bought foods...I believe in all natural but that takes alot of time..  My dogs have been on Hills since birth and have hardly ever been sick..So really I guess it is a personal preference, but I highly recommend it..Hope your puppy stays well..  Remember, low protein for failing kidneys.
Thanks for all your support and prayers,
Kerry, Bandy and Inky
