Now that summer has reached the Northwoods of Wisconsin and the sun can
shine mightily, I would like to try sun dying a wool roving rug. I imagine
the size would be about 2 x 3 feet, and it would be woven of white
mohair/wool roving with cotton/poly warp..... like the white part of my rug
on my website listed below.

That is as far as my imagination has taken me......... is anyone interested
in throwing out some thoughts, ideas, suggestions, warnings, etc? I have
never done this type of dying and wouldn't want the rug to leave its colors
on the floor.

Does the project need to fit inside a black garbage bag or can it be wrapped
in clear plastic? Should it lie flat or rolled with plastic between layers?
How long in the sun? How wet should it be? Should I put it on the roof to
increase the temperature, or will that melt the bag?

While I'm stripping the stain off the garage (and getting "dyed" by the sun
myself) I'm thinking of the cool basement where my looms are waiting for me
and working with wool wouldn't be uncomfortable.

So, please folks, help me, guide me........ any and all suggestions and
thoughts are welcome.

Thanks bunches.
