Wow, I just noticed this post and Art's reply. My SS4000 is also sitting on
top my mini-tower, because I don't have a SCSI cable long enough to stretch
to the top of my desk and the blasted things cost over fifty bucks. Oddly,
when I feel the side of my mini-tower, I can feel it vibrating (althoug

Hi Mark
Thanks for the recommendation for 'Amazing Wipes'. I dashed out to the
local Coles supermarket in Brisbane, but couldn't find anything by
that name. Where do you get 'em?

I have had my LS-30 siting on the top of the box for about 6 months now but
it inside a computer desk set that is built like an armoire so it is not
directly on the floor. No problems yet with either dust or heat.

The only concerns I can think of would be dust being closer to the floor,
and vibration from the fans/drives in the tower.

Not only is it 'unintuitive', but misnamed. It is labeled 'Automatically

That's right. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I just bought the Nikon LS-30 (refurbished for $499, 90-day warranty) and
will install it this weekend as in TODAY.
I am short on desk space - can I set the scanner on my PC Minitower box
which is sitting on the floor?

Ah! A volunteer! If you get it to me by Tuesday, I'll give it a thorough
testing, and you should be able to release by Friday ;-)
There is a tool in the support folder of the windows cd called " windiff ".
You can compare single files or directories with this program. I use it
after burning CDR. In the burning program "WINonCD 3.7" was an option to
verify the burned data with originals. I don't know whether it is still in

Someone mentioned a tool previously on this list that does binary file
compares recursively, but I don't remember the name. If you are
writing a single directory to CDR, it's easy to do a
