as i stumble along learning -- i now have scanned high bit images and i
can't use unsharp mask in photoshop. what does
one do ?? (i have a pc system so imagexpress software was no help.)

your assumption is wrong. each scsi device has setting window somewhere on
the device
that lest you toggle through numbers 0 through 7. this is the setting they
are talking about.
