Hi, Sometime ago some one here was kind enough to get the instructions for cleaning a Polaroid SprintScan 4000 - it was probably Tony. The instructions were originally posted by Thomas Maugham about 2 years ago and they are excellent.
Two things surprised me when I got into the scanner. First, I have had it over 5 years and I expected the dust to be much worse. It was bad enough, but the scanner had been through a home remodel while I was gone and there was thick dust on the outside of the case, and underneath the case. While there was dust on the mirror, it wasn't nearly as bad as I had envisioned. Secondly, somehow, the lens had no dust on it. I carefully tried passing a (bent) qtip over it, watching through the mirror and I could see nothing on the surface of the lens before I started, and I couldn't see that the qtip disturbed anything when it moved over the surface. The mirror did need to be cleaned with fluid, I used lens/CD cleaner instead of the alcohol recommended. Most of the dust could be blown off, but there was a light layer than needed to be moved with the Qtip and cleaner. So, thanks to those who posted and found these instructions - now to see if it works better. -- Brad The human body is the best picture of the soul.
