You're missing the VueScan User Guide: http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.pdf I owned VueScan Prof. for a couple of years but never made much use of it. Just a few days ago I discovered the user guide and it made a world of difference in what I got out of the program. VS goes well beyond a scanner's bundled modules. How to actually get the most out of it, however, is barely mentioned in its Help file. Thus you need the user guide. There's also a link to two good tutorials on the VueScan home page.
