I'll leave others to comment of appropriate scanners for your needs. If
the SS4000 had a bulk loader, it would probably be perfect, but to my
knowledge that's still on the drawing board.
I do hope you plan of keeping your film image collection someplace where
it can be reasonably archived

I would have a look at the cheaper Nikon Coolscan IV which scans at 2900dpi. But
if, as you say there are some doggy slides amongst your lot then you will need
the Digital ICE - which now seems better.
At present I can scan slides with my LS2000 at 2700 dpi and then print them out
at 4K

Digital ICE works well on many if not most Kodachrome slides. What happens
is that when there is a lot of cyan content, Digital ICE sometimes gives
unpredictable results. Of course, any dark part of the image will have a lot
of cyan. What happens is that you loose high frequency detail.
